Recipe

Ingredients

  • Kaoliang liquor
  • Bamboo leaves
  • Rock sugar
  • Herbs like Dong Quai / Tangerine peel

Instructions

  1. [Delicious Way to Drink]
  2. [Label Features] Brewed by TTL, etc. High ABV ~35%, but extremely sweet and smooth due to plenty of rock sugar (closer to a sweet 'liqueur' than a hard 'liquor').
  3. [Straight/Rocks] Poured into a small glass, the beautiful emerald green (or golden) color catches the eye. Spreads an exotic sweet aroma mixing the refreshing scent of bamboo leaves with herbs like Dong Quai and tangerine peel.
  4. Drinking 'on the rocks' tightens the sweetness, perfect as a digestif (dessert wine).
  5. [Soda Mix] If it's too strong/sweet, mixing with soda water into a 'Zhu Ye Qing Highball' makes it gulpable like a refreshing herbal cocktail.

Key spices

Substitutes at Japanese supermarkets

Campari or Yomeishu (as a herbal liqueur)

Pairing

Post-meal dessert、or Chinese pastries (Mooncakes、etc.)

Trivia

[Hardcore] Overturns the concept that 'liquor is bitter and harsh'; a liquor like herb/sugar syrup. Has medicinal effects, said to 'improve circulation and Qi'. Beautiful color and sweetness make it easy to drink, but since the base is Kaoliang (35%), drinking recklessly will knock you off your feet. A dangerously alluring liquor.

Eating tips & etiquette

[Unique Eating] On a hot Taiwanese night, drizzle a little Zhu Ye Qing over crushed ice (shaved ice) instead of syrup to eat as an adult's 'tipsy shaved ice'!

Allergen

Wheat (from Kaoliang base)
