Trivia

In China, star anise is called 'Da Hui Xiang' (Large fennel), while these seeds are 'Xiao Hui Xiang' (Small fennel). Because their aroma profiles are similar, it is blended with star anise to soften and complexify the scent.

Eating tips & etiquette

Looks identical to cumin, but if cumin is 'curry-like', Xiao Hui Xiang is 'sweet medicinal'. Mistakenly dumping it on mutton BBQ will result in a massive failure.
