Cordyceps Flower (Chong Cao Hua)
スープを黄金色に染める!冬虫夏草の親戚「オレンジ色の薬膳キノコ」
Description
Often mistaken for a 'flower' due to the name and slender orange appearance, but actually an artificially cultivated mushroom (Cordyceps militaris). Said to have medicinal effects (immunity boost) similar to the ultra-premium 'Cordyceps sinensis'. Frequently used in Cantonese medicinal soups (Lao Huo Tang). Snappy texture, no quirkiness, dyes soup a beautiful golden yellow.

Trivia
When rehydrating, the orange pigment dissolves into the water; this is natural and perfectly fine. To avoid losing color and nutrients, it's recommended to pour the soaking water into the soup pot as well.
Eating tips & etiquette
While real 'Cordyceps sinensis (fungus parasitizing insects)' is an ultra-premium good costing thousands of yen per gram, this is artificially cultivated on grain mediums, making it a commoner's ally bought for hundreds of yen at supermarkets (contains no insects).
