Trivia

[Hardcore] 'Channi' means tea strainer in Hindi. Since Indian CTC tea leaves are fine like coffee powder, shallow coarse Japanese strainers pool powder at the glass bottom, causing a gritty tongue-feel. A dedicated deep mesh is absolutely necessary to enjoy authentic Chai.

Eating tips & etiquette

[Unique Usage] A street Chai vendor (Chaiwala) pours boiling Chai like a waterfall from ~1 meter high towards the Channi, packing it with air to froth it fluffily!
